It gives you Wings - so why walk?

This spectacular stunt was carried out by Salzburg skydiver Paul Steiner on the 15th April 2010.

Both gliders were travelling at 100 miles an hour 2,100 metres in the air above the mountains in Styria, Austria.

Fearless Paul actually climbed out from the cockpit of his glider and crawled along the wing!

Amazingly he  then somersaulted under the fuselage of the second glider while the first turned upside down and flew overhead so that the sky diver could reach up and form a human link between the two planes.

As if the awesome scenery wasn't enough!

Los quatro Mosquitoes!

Er; no... Actually chaps it's a I.Ae.24 Calquin, (Royal Eagle) flown by the Fuerza AĆ©rea Argentina. Patterned on the great Mossie, it had Pratt & Whitney R-1830-G engines instead of the more powerful Merlins. Around 100 were built & served between 1947 - 60.

Before Radar

Before Radar "Acoustic amplifiers were in widespread use to attempt to detect unseen incoming enemy aircraft.

The Scientific Eggheads from all the advanced nations developed what was then the latest technology to listen out for approaching engines via a now bizarre looking  array of devices designed to aid the ear of specially trained operators.

Most had a range of about 25km in calm weather.

While most were fairly mobile units,  England in the late 1920 -30s, constructed a series  of  "acoustic locator walls" and concrete antennas along the coast, some of which can still be found today.

Presumably if you listen out for them...
